As a Senior Investigator, Sharon conducts investigations in response to complaints made to the Office of Equity Assurance. Sharon also provides information, consultation, and training to WVU students and employees in the areas of illegal discrimination and harassment.

She graduated with a law degree from North Carolina Central University Law School in 2006. Prior to law school, Sharon worked as a paralegal in Asheville, NC, where she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

During and after law school, Sharon conducted post-conviction investigations, handling hundreds of innocence claims and investigations.  In 2008, Sharon began working at the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission, a neutral fact-finding state agency, and served as the Commission’s Associate Director until July, 2017.  Sharon was lead investigator in the exonerations of Dwayne Dail (exonerated on August 28, 2007), Greg Taylor (exonerated on February 17, 2010), Willie Grimes (exonerated on October 5, 2012), Leon Brown & Henry McCollum (exonerated on September 2, 2014), Willie Womble (exonerated on October 17, 2014), Joseph Sledge (exonerated on January 23, 2015), Edward McInnis (exonerated on August 10, 2015), and Knolly Brown (exonerated on May 27, 2016).  As a neutral investigator, Sharon also confirmed guilt in numerous cases.

Sharon served on the North Carolina Association for Property and Evidence and the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault.  

In July of 2017,  Sharon joined West Virginia University’s Office of Equity Assurance.  As a Senior Investigator, Sharon conducts investigations in response to complaints made to the Office of Equity Assurance. Sharon also provides information, consultation, and training to WVU students and employees in the areas of illegal discrimination and harassment.
