Nichelle Perkins is joining West Virginia University as the Deputy Diversity Officer for Equity assurance as part of a reconstructed Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Nichelle is the Title IX Coordinator, ADA Coordinator along with having oversight responsibility for Title XI and Title XII.

James has worked with the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion since August 2010. James’ responsibility as Senior Investigator includes the investigation of any claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, Title VII and Title IX. James is responsible for conducting an investigation that protects the rights of both the victim and the accused. Other responsibilities that James has regarding investigations include testifying at hearings and witness compliance. James also provides training on various topics (i.e. discrimination, sexual harassment, etc.).

Rob began working in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in May of 2002. Rob’s specializations at the office include Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity. After preparing the annual updates to the Affirmative Action Plan, he assists in presenting these goals to senior administrators across campus. Rob is also responsible for working alongside search committees and hiring officials when hiring people outside of the classified system, which includes faculty and administrators.

Sharon is the Program Coordinator for the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She has served in this capacity since 2007. However, she has been a member of the office since 1996. Annual events that she plans are Diversi-Tea, University-wide Diversity Week, and assists with other student events as needed. Sharon organizes the Colloquium for Aspiring Minority Doctoral Students and Regalement Ceremonies which are supported through a grant funded by the WVHEPC. Additionally, she organizes the Social Justice Council and Visiting Committee meetings and assists the Chief Diversity Officer as needed.

Rebecca has worked with the Office of Accessibility Services since 2002. She began her work at the office as a Disability Services Counselor facilitating academic and physical accommodations for students with various types of disabilities. In 2007, Rebecca was appointed as the Assistant Director of the Office of Accessibility Services. She is also the Interpreting and Transcribing Coordinator and serves most students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing with twelve interpreters and transcribers, as well as coordinates services and agendas for all needed auxiliary aids University wide. Rebecca is responsible for working with departments and faculty to determine appropriate accommodations and services. She also represents the Office of Accessibility Services to other University departments, organizations, and institutions as well as the public on issues related to disability services. Rebecca enjoys working with individual students as well as the public on issues related to disability services. Rebecca enjoys working with individual students as well as groups on a variety of success strategies such as time management, study skills, and plans for success while at WVU and in the future. She is a member of many campus and community groups and activities and always has an open door to anyone who has a question.

She also provides them with time management and study skills that will help students to succeed in their academic adventures as well as their future.

Briana has worked with the Office of Accessibility Services since 2003. She had spent the past ten years as an Accessibility Services Counselor at campuses of 1) WVU and 2) Potomac State College, a Divisional Campus of WVU located in Keyser, WV. As a Rehabilitation Counselor, she serves students with disabilities such as physical, psychological, cognitive, visual and hearing impairments. At both campuses, she responds to requests for accommodation services from students with disabilities, receives and reviews documentation, and provides approved accommodations to qualified students. She works with faculty, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, vocational rehabilitation staff, and numerous others to assist with the accommodation of students.

Derek has worked with the Office of Accessibility Services since 2006, beginning his work with the office as an intern that fall. He began to work full-time with the office in July of 2007. Derek serves as an Accessibility Services Counselor focusing much of his work in the areas of Alternative Formats and Assistive Technology coordinating the prevision of audio textbooks and Read & Write Gold, a campus wide software package. Derek also serves around 200 students annually with disabilities such as physical, psychological, sensorial, etc. He assists these students in receiving academic accommodations for their disabilities. In addition to working with current WVU students, Derek also works with prospective students preparing to enter WVU. In this role, he speaks to students and parents about services provided by the Office of Accessibility Services and needed documentation that must be provided by students to obtain these services. Derek is very proud of his work with the Office of Accessibility Services. Two major areas of pride for him are developing the Mountaineer Academic Program and assisting with the coordination of the Federal Workforce Recruitment Program. MAP provides students with access to peer tutoring and academic coaching support and the Workforce Recruitment Program assists students in locating federal summer internships. In addition to his work with students, Derek is also responsible for maintaining the DDEI’s websites and blogs.

Ashley joined the Office of Accessibility Services in 2009. Currently she serves students with disabilities as both a rehabilitation counselor in the Office of Accessibility Services and as an Academic Coach in the Mountaineer Academic Program. As a West Virginia University Alumni, she holds a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Psychology. She is a WV Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. Currently, she is pursuing her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in counseling. Ashley is a caring and compassionate person who is committed to meeting the needs of her students.

Yolanda has worked with the Office of Accessibility Services since 2008 as the Administrative Assistant, Senior. Yolanda provides high-level independent administrative support for the Assistant Director and the professional staff. She liaises with students, staff and faculty to ensure that the service needs of students are met. She maintains confidentiality, tact and respect for all individuals and problem-solving skills to independently respond to the challenges and needs as they arise. She greets everyone with a smile when they enter the Office. She performs administrative tasks assigned to support the achievement of the Office of Accessibility Services and involve knowledge and protection of confidential and business-limited information. The duties she performs involve substantial discretion and independent judgment.

Tola started working with the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in August of 2012. He is currently a Graduate Assistant at the office. Tola is from Alexandria, Virginia. He graduated from St. Gregory’s College (High School) in Lagos, Nigeria. Tola’s job at the office includes contributing to research and implementation of policies that ensure that WVU hires faculty, staff, and administrators that are of high quality as well as rich in diversity. He also performs other duties as identified by the Chief Diversity Officer, Deputy Diversity Officer, Research Associate, and the Program Coordinator to enhance professional development and/or support the success of program areas/department. In the future, Tola wants to become a contributing Human Resources business partner for a multinational corporation or to become an Investment Banker in a financial institution. He would love a career where he can actually pursue both options simultaneously; however, until he can carve out such a career for himself, he will be content with either option. When asked what he likes most about the office, Tola said the people that he works with. He says that “they give you the opportunity to grow, while not being afraid of making mistakes.”

Terre-Lynn started working with the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in January of 2012. She is currently a Graduate Assistant at the office. Terre is from Bermuda. She graduated from The Berkley Institute in Bermuda. Terre earned a Regents B.A. at WVU. Terre has a minor in Communications, as well as in Women’s and Gender’s Studies. Terre is currently working on earning a Master’s in Elementary Education. Terre’s job at the office includes assisting the Program Coordinator, Sharon Mallow, with various aspects of event planning: making posters, flyers, email correspondence, communicating with participants, and organizing files. She also finds participants and organizes cultural presentations at University High School. In the future, Terre wants to inspire children to learn and to aspire to be all that they can be. Terre also hopes to be all that she can be. When asked what she likes most about the office, Terre said the friendly staff that makes working at the office a smooth and enjoyable experience. She enjoys the family-like atmosphere. She doubts that there is a better office to be a Graduate Assistant in.
