LGBTQ Initiatives

LBGTQ+ Center

The LGBTQ Center has been created to offer support in developing and delivering inclusive programming and outreach initiatives to for WVU students, faculty and staff. We will collaborate with and support the University’s larger social justice efforts by providing academic and curricular support on all campuses, by advocating for members of our community, and by building coalitions.

The center is committed to serving as a resource center and as the social, intellectual and physical hub of the LGBTQ community at WVU. We will help the University identify, monitor and assess best practices in programming and policy to ensure an inclusive atmosphere, and we will help WVU establish a leadership role in the state and among our peer institutions on LGBTQ matters.

They will:

COORDINATE development of programming and outreach for LGBTQ students, staff, faculty and community members. We recognize the diversity of our communities and encourage analyses and collaboration that address all inequalities, including sexuality, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, social class, language, religion, disability and region.

PROVIDE academic and curricular support to develop LGBTQ-related research projects and grants, teaching materials, courses and conferences, as well as organize events that encourage student well-being and academic achievement.

ADVOCATE for members of the LGBTQ community and their allies. We will help build coalitions that cross units, maximize collaboration, encourage university-wide inclusiveness and support social justice initiatives.
SERVE as the hub of the social, intellectual and physical community for members of the LGBTQ community and their allies.
