Policies and Procedures

West Virginia University is committed to maintaining a diverse and equitable community, free from discrimination. To accomplish this goal, the University draws on a number of acts, laws, and policies that shape its core values, such as:

  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin 
  • Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits discrimination under any education program on the basis of sex, and which makes it the responsibility of all institutions of higher education to end sexual harassment and sexual violence 
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities 
  • West Virginia University Board of Governor’s (BOG) Policies 31, 44, and 49, which provide rules to promote the safety and well-being of all members of the WVU community and all visitors to WVU’s campuses
