Policies and Procedures

West Virginia University is committed to maintaining a diverse and equitable community, free from discrimination. To accomplish this goal, the University draws on a number of acts, laws, and policies that shape its core values, such as:

  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin
  • Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits discrimination under any education program on the basis of sex, and which makes it the responsibility of a ll institutions of higher education to end sexual harassment and sexual violence 
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities 
  • West Virginia University Board of Governor’s (BOG) Policies 31, 44, and 49, which provide rules to promote the safety and well-being of all members of the WVU community and all visitors to WVU’s campuses
