Background Checks

To ensure that children participating in West Virginia University sponsored Children On Campus Programs are supported by qualified adults in safe and secure environments. All adult program or event faculty, staff, students, and volunteers are required to complete a background check before they begin working with children.

Background checks for faculty, staff, students, and volunteers for WVU programs must be repeated every three years. If a background check reveals a criminal record history, the applicant will be notified and their application will be reviewed for evaluation consistent with university policy.

Background checks are provided by the university at no cost to university-sponsored programs.

To request a Background Check

  • Form must be completed by WVU Supervisor or Designee.
  • Any adult responsible for Transporting youth are required to also have a Yearly DMV Check and this request can be submitted at the same time as the Background Check.

For further information on background checks, see our frequently asked questions.
